John 20
Jon 20:1 On the First of Sabbaths, Mary of Magdala came to the grave before dawn, while it was still dark, and she saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb.
Jon 20:2 She ran and came to Simon Peter and the other disciple that Jesus was fond of, and she said, “They have taken the Master out of the grave and we didn’t see where they put him!”
Jon 20:3 So Peter and the other disciple went to the grave.
Jon 20:4 They ran together but the other disciple outran Peter and got there first.
Jon 20:5 He bent over and saw the bandages lying there, but he did not go inside.
Jon 20:6 Then Simon Peter came along and entered into the grave. He saw the bandages lying there,
Jon 20:7 and the sweat cloth that had been on Jesus’ head was folded up in a separate spot.
Jon 20:8 Then the other disciple who had arrived first entered into the grave; he saw and believed.
Jon 20:9 (Up until then, they had not understood that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)
Jon 20:10 Then they returned to the other disciples.
Jon 20:11 But Mary had stood outside near the grave, sobbing. And while she continued to sob she bent over to look into the grave.
Jon 20:12 She sees two Messengers in white sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one near the head and the other near the feet.
Jon 20:13 And they said to her, “Dear woman, why are you sobbing?” She replied, “They took my master and I don’t know where they put him.”
Jon 20:14 Having said this she turned back around and saw Jesus standing there, but she didn’t recognize him.
Jon 20:15 Jesus says to her, “Dear woman, why are you sobbing? Who is it you’re looking for?” Presuming he was the caretaker, she replied, “Sir, if you took him away, tell me where you put him and I’ll take him.”
Jon 20:16 Jesus says to her, “Mary!” She turns toward him and says “Rabboni!” which means “teacher.”
Jon 20:17 “Stop hanging on to me!” Jesus said. “I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my siblings and tell them that I am ascending now to my Father and your Father, my God and your God.”
Jon 20:18 Mary of Magdala comes to the disciples and announces, “I have seen the Master!” and tells them the things he said to her.
Jon 20:19 It was late in the day, on the First of Sabbaths, and the doors where they were staying were locked for fear of the Judeans. Suddenly Jesus came and stood in the middle of the group and said “Hello!”
Jon 20:20 Then he also showed them his hands and side. They were very happy to see the Master!
Jon 20:21 He said ‘hello’ to them again, and added, “Just as the Father commissioned me, now I am also sending you.”
Jon 20:22 Having said this he exhaled on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
Jon 20:23 If you discharge someone’s failures they are discharged, and if you retain them they are retained.”
Jon 20:24 Now Thomas, one of the Twelve (nicknamed the Twin) was not with them when Jesus came.
Jon 20:25 Then the other disciples said, “We have seen the Master!” But he responded, “Unless I see his hands and press my finger into the exact spot where the nails were, and put my hand on the exact spot in his ribs, I will refuse to believe it!”
Jon 20:26 Then in the space of eight days the disciples were inside the room again, and Thomas was with them. As before, the doors were locked and Jesus is suddenly standing in the middle of the group and says, “Hello!”
Jon 20:27 Then he said to Thomas, “Reach out with your finger and observe my hands, then reach out with your hand and examine my side. Don’t lose faith, but believe!”
Jon 20:28 “My Master and my God!” exclaimed Thomas.
Jon 20:29 Jesus responded, “You have seen and believed; happy are those who believe without seeing!”
Jon 20:30 Jesus did, in fact, also perform many miracles in view of the disciples, which were not recorded in this book.
Jon 20:31 But what has been written was done in order for you to believe that Jesus is the Anointed, the God-Man, and that by putting your trust in him you can have eternal life.
Jon 20:2 She ran and came to Simon Peter and the other disciple that Jesus was fond of, and she said, “They have taken the Master out of the grave and we didn’t see where they put him!”
