Act 28:1 When we had come safely through, we found out that the island was called Melita.
Act 28:2 The people there showed us unusual kindness, kindling a fire and taking us in due to the rain and cold.
Act 28:3 But as Paul twisted together a bundle of kindling and put it on the fire, a poisonous snake came away from the heat and fastened itself to his hand.
Act 28:4 Now when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand they said to each other, “This person must certainly be a murderer. Though he came safely out of the sea, Justice will not let him live.”
Act 28:5 But he shook it off and into the fire without suffering any harm.
Act 28:6 They were expecting him to swell up or drop dead, but after waiting quite a while without incident, they decided instead that he was a god.
Act 28:7 The land nearby belonged to the leader of the island, Publius. He welcomed us kindly and lodged us for three days.
Act 28:8 Now it happened that Publius’ father was bedridden with fever and dysentery. But Paul came to him, and after praying and placing his hand on him, miraculously healed him.
Act 28:9 After this happened, the rest of the islanders with infirmities came and were cured.
Act 28:10 They gave us many honors, and when it came time to set sail they supplied our needs.
Act 28:11 After three months we set out on an Alexandrian ship with the figurehead of Castor and Pollux, which had wintered at the island.
Act 28:12 After landing at Syracuse we stayed for three days,
Act 28:13 then circled around to arrive at Rhegium. When the south wind came up the next day, we reached Puteoli the day after.
Act 28:14 We found some believers there, who invited us to stay with them for seven days. Then finally we came to Rome.
Act 28:15 The believers there had heard about us and came to meet us as far as the Appii Forum and Three Taverns. When Paul saw them he thanked God and took courage.
Act 28:16 And when we entered Rome, Paul was allowed to live on his own, along with the soldier assigned to guard him.
Act 28:17 Now it happened that three days later he called together the leaders of the Judeans. When they arrived he said to them, “Folks and fellow believers, I, who have done nothing contrary to our people or traditions, was taken prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
Act 28:18 They tried me and intended to release me since there was no basis for the death penalty against me.
Act 28:19 But when the Judeans spoke against me I was compelled to appeal to Caesar, not that I had any complaint against my people.
Act 28:20 This is the reason I called you here, to see you and speak to you, because I am in chains due to the hope of Israel.”
Act 28:21 But they responded, “We have not received any letters about you from Judea, and none of the believers that have come along have said anything good or bad about you.
Act 28:22 But we still want to hear your thoughts about this sect which is being spoken against everywhere.”
Act 28:23 A day was set for a meeting, and even more people came to where he was staying. He expounded and testified about the kingdom of God from morning to evening, persuading them about Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets.
Act 28:24 Some were indeed convinced by what he said, while others were not.
Act 28:25 They disagreed among themselves and were dismissed after Paul made this one declaration: “The Holy Spirit truly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your ancestors:
Act 28:26 ‘Go to this people and say, “You will always hear but never understand; you will always see but never perceive.
Act 28:27 For these people’s minds are calloused; their ears are plugged; they squint with their eyes. Otherwise they might see clearly, listen intently, and understand completely. Then I would turn around and heal them.”’
Act 28:28 “Let it be known to you, then, that this salvation of God was sent to the non-Judeans, and they will listen!”

Act 28:30 He stayed there for two whole years in his own rented house. He welcomed all who came to him
Act 28:31 and proclaimed the kingdom of God, teaching about Master Jesus the Anointed, unhindered and with great boldness.

Act 28:1 και διασωθεντες τοτε επεγνωμεν ὁτι μελιτη ἡ νησος καλειται
Act 28:2 οἱ τε βαρβαροι παρειχον ου την τυχουσαν φιλανθρωπιαν ἡμιν ἁψαντες γαρ πυραν προσελαβοντο παντας ἡμας δια τον ὑετον τον εφεστωτα και δια το ψυχος
Act 28:3 συστρεψαντος δε του παυλου φρυγανων τι πληθος και επιθεντος επι την πυραν εχιδνα απο της θερμης εξελθουσα καθηψεν της χειρος αυτου
Act 28:4 ὡς δε ειδον οἱ βαρβαροι κρεμαμενον το θηριον εκ της χειρος αυτου προς αλληλους ελεγον παντως φονευς εστιν ὁ ανθρωπος οὑτος ὁν διασωθεντα εκ της θαλασσης ἡ δικη ζην ουκ ειασεν
Act 28:5 ὁ μεν ουν αποτιναξας το θηριον εις το πυρ επαθεν ουδεν κακον
Act 28:6 οἱ δε προσεδοκων αυτον μελλειν πιμπρασθαι η καταπιπτειν αφνω νεκρον επι πολυ δε αυτων προσδοκωντων και θεωρουντων μηδεν ατοπον εις αυτον γινομενον μεταβαλομενοι ελεγον αυτον ειναι θεον
Act 28:7 εν δε τοις περι τον τοπον εκεινον ὑπηρχεν χωρια τω πρωτω της νησου ονοματι ποπλιω ὁς αναδεξαμενος ἡμας τρεις ἡμερας φιλοφρονως εξενισεν
Act 28:8 εγενετο δε τον πατερα του ποπλιου πυρετοις και δυσεντεριω συνεχομενον κατακεισθαι προς ὁν ὁ παυλος εισελθων και προσευξαμενος επιθεις τας χειρας αυτω ιασατο αυτον
Act 28:9 τουτου δε γενομενου και οἱ λοιποι οἱ εν τη νησω εχοντες ασθενειας προσηρχοντο και εθεραπευοντο
Act 28:10 οἱ και πολλαις τιμαις ετιμησαν ἡμας και αναγομενοις επεθεντο τα προς τας χρειας
Act 28:11 μετα δε τρεις μηνας ανηχθημεν εν πλοιω παρακεχειμακοτι εν τη νησω αλεξανδρινω παρασημω διοσκουροις

Act 28:18 οἱτινες ανακριναντες με εβουλοντο απολυσαι δια το μηδεμιαν αιτιαν θανατου ὑπαρχειν εν εμοι
Act 28:19 αντιλεγοντων δε των ιουδαιων ηναγκασθην επικαλεσασθαι καισαρα ουχ ὡς του εθνους μου εχων τι κατηγορειν
Act 28:20 δια ταυτην ουν την αιτιαν παρεκαλεσα ὑμας ιδειν και προσλαλησαι ἑνεκεν γαρ της ελπιδος του ισραηλ την ἁλυσιν ταυτην περικειμαι
Act 28:21 οἱ δε προς αυτον ειπαν ἡμεις ουτε γραμματα περι σου εδεξαμεθα απο της ιουδαιας ουτε παραγενομενος τις των αδελφων απηγγειλεν η ελαλησεν τι περι σου πονηρον
Act 28:22 αξιουμεν δε παρα σου ακουσαι ἁ φρονεις περι μεν γαρ της αἱρεσεως ταυτης γνωστον ἡμιν εστιν ὁτι πανταχου αντιλεγεται
Act 28:23 ταξαμενοι δε αυτω ἡμεραν ηλθον προς αυτον εις την ξενιαν πλειονες οἱς εξετιθετο διαμαρτυρομενος την βασιλειαν του θεου πειθων τε αυτους περι του ιησου απο τε του νομου μωϋσεως και των προφητων απο πρωϊ ἑως ἑσπερας
Act 28:24 και οἱ μεν επειθοντο τοις λεγομενοις οἱ δε ηπιστουν
Act 28:25 ασυμφωνοι δε οντες προς αλληλους απελυοντο ειποντος του παυλου ῥημα ἑν ὁτι καλως το πνευμα το ἁγιον ελαλησεν δια ησαϊου του προφητου προς τους πατερας ὑμων
Act 28:26 λεγων πορευθητι προς τον λαον τουτον και ειπον ακοη ακουσετε και ου μη συνητε και βλεποντες βλεψετε και ου μη ιδητε
Act 28:27 επαχυνθη γαρ ἡ καρδια του λαου τουτου και τοις ωσιν βαρεως ηκουσαν και τους οφθαλμους αυτων εκαμμυσαν μηπὁτε ιδωσιν τοις οφθαλμοις και τοις ωσιν ακουσωσιν και τη καρδια συνωσιν και επιστρεψωσιν και ιασομαι αυτους
Act 28:28 γνωστον ουν εστω ὑμιν ὁτι τοις εθνεσιν απεσταλη τουτο το σωτηριον του θεου αυτοι και ακουσονται
