Act 21:1 After we had torn ourselves away from them, we set out and made a straight run for Cos. The next day we reached Rhodes, and then went on to Patara.
Act 21:2 We found a ship crossing all the way over to Phoenicia, so we got on board and set out.
Act 21:3 We sighted Cyprus but passed it by on the left. We sailed on to Syria, then down to Tyre where the ship was to unload its cargo.
Act 21:4 Discovering that there were disciples there, we stayed for seven days. But through the Spirit they told Paul not to get on board for Jerusalem.
Act 21:5 When we were fully prepared we went away again. We were sent off by everyone, including the women and children, who accompanied us to the city limits. We all knelt on the beach and prayed,
Act 21:6 then said our goodbyes and boarded the ship, with the others returning to their homes.
Act 21:7 At the end of our voyage we went down from Tyre to Ptolemais, where we greeted the fellow believers and stayed with them for a day.
Act 21:8 The next day we left again and came to Caesarea, where we entered the home of Philip, the Gospel proclaimer who was one of The Seven, and stayed with him.
Act 21:9 He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.
Act 21:10 And after we had stayed a few days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Jerusalem.
Act 21:11 He came to us, took Paul’s belt and bound his own hands and feet with it, and said, “This is what the Holy Spirit says: The owner of this belt will be bound in this manner by the Judeans in Jerusalem, and they will hand him over to the non-Judeans.”
Act 21:12 When we heard this, we and the locals pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem.
Act 21:13 But Paul responded, “Why are you doing this to me, crying and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound but also to die in Jerusalem, for the sake of the name of Master Jesus!”
Act 21:14 When we could not dissuade him, we quieted down and said, “May the will of the Master be done.”
Act 21:15 After that we packed our bags and went to Jerusalem,
Act 21:16 and some disciples from Caesarea came along with us. They took us to stay with Mnason, a Cyprian, who had been a disciple from the beginning.
Act 21:17 We were warmly greeted by the believers in Jerusalem.
Act 21:18 The next day Paul and the rest of us went to see James, and all the elders came as well.
Act 21:19 After greeting them, Paul retold each detail in order concerning all the things God had done among the non-Judeans through his service.
Act 21:20 Those who heard this gave honor to God, but then they said, “You are aware, brother, that tens of thousands of Judeans have believed, yet they are all still very dedicated to the Law.
Act 21:21 They have heard about you, that you teach all the Judeans in other nations to depart from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or keep the traditions.
Act 21:22 “What are we to do about this, since they will surely find out you have come?
Act 21:23 Follow our instructions: There are four men here who have taken a vow.
Act 21:24 Take them along and join in their purification ritual, and pay to have their heads shaved. Then everyone will know that there’s nothing to what they’ve heard about you, since you strictly observe the Law.
Act 21:25 As for the non-Judean believers, we have written them a letter instructing them to stay away from idol sacrifice, from eating animals with blood still in them or that had been strangled, and from promiscuity.”
Act 21:26 So Paul took the men the next day and purified himself along with them. Then he entered the temple compound to record the completion date of the purification period, and he made an offering for each one of them.
Act 21:27 When the seven days were nearly over, Judeans from the province of Asia spotted him in the temple compound. They agitated the crowd by taking hold of Paul
Act 21:28 and yelling, “People of Israel, help us! This is the one who spreads teachings to everyone everywhere against our people, the Law, and this place. And what’s more, he brought non-Judeans into the temple compound and has contaminated this sacred place!”
Act 21:29 (Earlier they had seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him, and they presumed Paul had taken him into the temple compound.)
Act 21:30 The whole city was in an uproar, and the people formed a mob. They seized Paul and removed him from the temple compound, then quickly locked the gates.
Act 21:31 While they were trying to kill him, a report reached the commander of the garrison that all of Jerusalem was in turmoil.
Act 21:32 So he took soldiers and legion commanders down to them immediately. When the mob saw them, they stopped beating Paul.
Act 21:33 Then the legion commander approached Paul and took custody of him, having him bound with two chains. He demanded to know who he was and what he had done,
Act 21:34 but the mob shouted conflicting things. So because he couldn’t figure out what was going on, he ordered Paul to be taken to the citadel.
Act 21:35 When he reached the stairway the soldiers had to carry him because the mob had become too violent,
Act 21:36 and they followed along shouting, “Put him to death!”
Act 21:37 As he was about to be taken into the citadel, Paul asked the legion commander, “May I have a word with you?” “You speak Greek,” he responded.
Act 21:38 “So you must not be the Egyptian who led an insurrection some time ago and took four thousand men of the Assassins into the wilderness.”
Act 21:39 “I am in fact a Judean from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of an important city,” Paul replied. “So please let me speak to the people.”
Act 21:40 He granted permission, so Paul stood on the stairs and motioned with his hand to the people. When they had completely settled down, he began his speech to them in the Hebrew dialect:

Act 21:1 ὡς δε εγενετο αναχθηναι ἡμας αποσπασθεντας απ᾽ αυτων ευθυδρομησαντες ηλθομεν εις την κω τη δε ἑξης εις την ῥοδον κακειθεν εις παταρα
Act 21:2 και εὑροντες πλοιον διαπερων εις φοινικην επιβαντες ανηχθημεν
Act 21:3 αναφαναντες δε την κυπρον και καταλιποντες αυτην ευωνυμον επλεομεν εις συριαν και κατηλθομεν εις τυρον εκεισε γαρ το πλοιον ην αποφορτιζομενον τον γομον
Act 21:4 ανευροντες δε τους μαθητας επεμειναμεν αυτου ἡμερας ἑπτα οἱτινες τω παυλω ελεγον δια του πνευματος μη επιβαινειν εις ἱεροσολυμα
Act 21:5 ὁτε δε εγενετο ἡμας εξαρτισαι τας ἡμερας εξελθοντες επορευομεθα προπεμποντων ἡμας παντων συν γυναιξι και τεκνοις ἑως εξω της πολεως και θεντες τα γονατα επι τον αιγιαλον προσευξαμενοι
Act 21:6 απησπασαμεθα αλληλους και ανεβημεν εις το πλοιον εκεινοι δε ὑπεστρεψαν εις τα ιδια
Act 21:7 ἡμεις δε τον πλουν διανυσαντες απο τυρου κατηντησαμεν εις πτολεμαϊδα και ασπασαμενοι τους αδελφους εμειναμεν ἡμεραν μιαν παρ᾽ αυτοις
Act 21:8 τη δε επαυριον εξελθοντες ηλθομεν εις καισαρειαν και εισελθοντες εις τον οικον φιλιππου του ευαγγελιστου οντος εκ των ἑπτα εμειναμεν παρ᾽ αυτω
Act 21:9 τουτω δε ησαν θυγατερες τεσσαρες παρθενοι προφητευουσαι
Act 21:10 επιμενοντων δε ἡμερας πλειους κατηλθεν τις απο της ιουδαιας προφητης ονοματι ἁγαβος
Act 21:11 και ελθων προς ἡμας και αρας την ζωνην του παυλου δησας ἑαυτου τους ποδας και τας χειρας ειπεν ταδε λεγει το πνευμα το ἁγιον τον ανδρα οὑ εστιν ἡ ζωνη αὑτη οὑτως ησουσιν εν ιερουσαλημ οἱ ιουδαιοι και παραδωσουσιν εις χειρας εθνων
Act 21:12 ὡς δε ηκουσαμεν ταυτα παρεκαλουμεν ἡμεις τε και οἱ εντοπιοι του μη αναβαινειν αυτον εις ιερουσαλημ
Act 21:13 τοτε απεκριθη ὁ παυλος τι ποιειτε κλαιοντες και συνθρυπτοντες μου την καρδιαν εγω γαρ ου μονον δεθηναι αλλα και αποθανειν εις ιερουσαλημ ἑτοιμως εχω ὑπερ του ονοματος του κυριου ιησου
Act 21:14 μη πειθομενου δε αυτου ἡσυχασαμεν ειποντες του κυριου το θελημα γινεσθω
Act 21:15 μετα δε τας ἡμερας ταυτας επισκευασαμενοι ανεβαινομεν εις ἱεροσολυμα
Act 21:16 συνηλθον δε και των μαθητων απο καισαρειας συν ἡμιν αγοντες παρ᾽ ὡ ξενισθωμεν μνασωνι τινι κυπριω αρχαιω μαθητη
Act 21:17 γενομενων δε ἡμων εις ἱεροσολυμα ασμενως απεδεξαντο ἡμας οἱ αδελφοι
Act 21:18 τη δε επιουση εισηει ὁ παυλος συν ἡμιν προς ιακωβον παντες τε παρεγενοντο οἱ πρεσβυτεροι
Act 21:19 και ασπασαμενος αυτους εξηγειτο καθ᾽ ἑν ἑκαστον ὡν εποιησεν ὁ θεος εν τοις εθνεσιν δια της διακονιας αυτου
Act 21:20 οἱ δε ακουσαντες εδοξαζον τον θεον ειπον τε αυτω θεωρεις αδελφε ποσαι μυριαδες εισιν εν τοις ιουδαιοις των πεπιστευκοτων και παντες ζηλωται του νομου ὑπαρχουσιν
Act 21:21 κατηχηθησαν δε περι σου ὁτι αποστασιαν διδασκεις απο μωϋσεως τους κατα τα εθνη παντας ιουδαιους λεγων μη περιτεμνειν αυτους τα τεκνα μηδε τοις εθεσιν περιπατειν
Act 21:22 τι ουν εστιν παντως ακουσονται ὁτι εληλυθας
Act 21:23 τουτο ουν ποιησον ὁ σοι λεγομεν εισιν ἡμιν ανδρες τεσσαρες ευχην εχοντες εφ᾽ ἑαυτων
Act 21:24 τουτους παραλαβων ἁγνισθητι συν αυτοις και δαπανησον επ᾽ αυτοις ἱνα ξυρησονται την κεφαλην και γνωσονται παντες ὁτι ὡν κατηχηνται περι σου ουδεν εστιν αλλα στοιχεις και αυτος φυλασσων τον νομον
Act 21:25 περι δε των πεπιστευκοτων εθνων ἡμεις επεστειλαμεν κριναντες φυλασσεσθαι αυτους το τε ειδωλοθυτον και αἱμα και πνικτον και πορνειαν
Act 21:26 τοτε ὁ παυλος παραλαβων τους ανδρας τη εχομενη ἡμερα συν αυτοις ἁγνισθεις εισηει εις το ἱερον διαγγελλων την εκπληρωσιν των ἡμερων του ἁγνισμου ἑως οὑ προσηνεχθη ὑπερ ἑνος ἑκαστου αυτων ἡ προσφορα
Act 21:27 ὡς δε εμελλον αἱ ἑπτα ἡμεραι συντελεισθαι οἱ απο της ασιας ιουδαιοι θεασαμενοι αυτον εν τω ἱερω συνεχεον παντα τον οχλον και επεβαλον επ᾽ αυτον τας χειρας
Act 21:28 κραζοντες ανδρες ισραηλιται βοηθειτε οὑτος εστιν ὁ ανθρωπος ὁ κατα του λαου και του νομου και του τοπου τουτου παντας πανταχη διδασκων ετι τε και ἑλληνας εισηγαγεν εις το ἱερον και κεκοινωκεν τον ἁγιον τοπον τουτον
Act 21:29 ησαν γαρ προεωρακοτες τροφιμον τον εφεσιον εν τη πολει συν αυτω ὁν ενομιζον ὁτι εις το ἱερον εισηγαγεν ὁ παυλος
Act 21:30 εκινηθη τε ἡ πολις ὁλη και εγενετο συνδρομη του λαου και επιλαβομενοι του παυλου εἱλκον αυτον εξω του ἱερου και ευθεως εκλεισθησαν αἱ θυραι
Act 21:31 ζητουντων τε αυτον αποκτειναι ανεβη φασις τω χιλιαρχω της σπειρης ὁτι ὁλη συγχυννεται ιερουσαλημ
Act 21:32 ὁς εξαυτης παραλαβων στρατιωτας και ἑκατονταρχας κατεδραμεν επ᾽ αυτους οἱ δε ιδοντες τον χιλιαρχον και τους στρατιωτας επαυσαντο τυπτοντες τον παυλον
Act 21:33 τοτε εγγισας ὁ χιλιαρχος επελαβετο αυτου και εκελευσεν δεθηναι ἁλυσεσι δυσι και επυνθανετο τις ειη και τι εστιν πεποιηκως
Act 21:34 αλλοι δε αλλο τι επεφωνουν εν τω οχλω μη δυναμενου δε αυτου γνωναι το ασφαλες δια τον θορυβον εκελευσεν αγεσθαι αυτον εις την παρεμβολην
Act 21:35 ὁτε δε εγενετο επι τους αναβαθμους συνεβη βασταζεσθαι αυτον ὑπο των στρατιωτων δια την βιαν του οχλου
Act 21:36 ηκολουθει γαρ το πληθος του λαου κραζοντες αιρε αυτον
Act 21:37 μελλων τε εισαγεσθαι εις την παρεμβολην ὁ παυλος λεγει τω χιλιαρχω ει. εξεστιν μοι ειπειν τι προς σε ὁ δε εφη ἑλληνιστι γινωσκεις
Act 21:38 ουκ αρα συ ει ὁ αιγυπτιος ὁ προ τουτων των ἡμερων αναστατωσας και εξαγαγων εις την ερημον τους τετρακισχιλιους ανδρας των σικαριων
Act 21:39 ειπεν δε ὁ παυλος εγω ανθρωπος μεν ειμι ιουδαιος ταρσευς της κιλικιας ουκ ασημου πολεως πολιτης δεομαι δε σου επιτρεψον μοι λαλησαι προς τον λαον
Act 21:40 επιτρεψαντος δε αυτου ὁ παυλος ἑστως επι των αναβαθμων κατεσεισεν τη χειρι τω λαω πολλης δε σιγης γενομενης προσεφωνησεν τη ἑβραϊδι διαλεκτω λεγων
