Mar 6:1 He left there and went into his hometown, with his disciples following.
Mar 6:2 On one Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and when they heard him, many were dumbfounded and said, “Where did this come from? And how did he get this wisdom, or the power to do such things through his hands?
Mar 6:3 Isn’t he the craftsperson, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren’t his sisters here with us?” So they took offense at him.
Mar 6:4 Then Jesus said to them, “A prophet is honored everyplace except in their own hometown and among their own relatives and household!”
Mar 6:5 And he was unable to do any powerful deeds there, except to place his hands on a few chronically ill people and heal them;
Mar 6:6 their lack of faith was disturbing. And he went around teaching in the villages.
Mar 6:7 Then he calls the Twelve together and begins to send them out two by two. He gave them jurisdiction over the unclean spirits
Mar 6:8 and told them not to take anything extra on the trip except a walking stick: no bread, no luggage, no wallet.
Mar 6:9 They could wear sandals but not an extra tunic.
Mar 6:10 And he added, “Whenever you enter into a house, stay there until you leave that place.
Mar 6:11 If they don’t welcome you and refuse to listen to you, shake the dust from beneath your feet as a testimony against them.”
Mar 6:12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should change their minds.
Mar 6:13 They also expelled many demons, and rubbed oil on the chronically ill to heal them.
Mar 6:14 Now King Herod heard about this, because Jesus’ name had become well-known. People were saying that John the Immerser had been raised from the dead, since he had these powers.
Mar 6:15 Others said he was Elijah, and still others that he was a prophet like the prophets of old.
Mar 6:16 But when Herod heard this he said, “It is John, whom I had beheaded! He has been raised from the dead!”
Mar 6:17 (Herod had ordered that John be arrested and jailed, because Herod had married the wife of his brother Philip
Mar 6:18 and John had told him, “It is illegal for you to have your brother’s wife.”
Mar 6:19 So Herodias was out to get John and wanted to kill him. But she couldn’t
Mar 6:20 because Herod feared John and knew him to be a righteous and holy man, so he protected him. He was intrigued with him and listened to him eagerly.
Mar 6:21 But then came the opportune moment. On his birthday, Herod was hosting a dinner for all his important guests, including legion commanders and leading citizens of Galilee.
Mar 6:22 When Herodias’ daughter came in and danced for them, this pleased Herod and his guests. So the king said to the young girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.”
Mar 6:23 And he swore a strong oath to her: “Anything you ask of me, I will give to you— even up to half my kingdom!”
Mar 6:24 So she went out and said to her mother, “What should I ask for?” “The head of John the Immerser!” she replied.
Mar 6:25 So she quickly went straight to the king and said, “I choose that you immediately give me, on a platter, the head of John the Immerser!”
Mar 6:26 The king was devastated. But because of his oaths and the dinner guests, he didn’t want to decline her request.
Mar 6:27 So right away the king dispatched his executioner to bring John’s head, so he left and beheaded him in the prison.
Mar 6:28 Then he brought it on a platter and gave it to the young girl, who gave it to her mother.
Mar 6:29 Upon hearing this, his disciples came and carried away the corpse and buried it.)
Mar 6:30 Then the ambassadors met with Jesus and told him about all that they had done and taught.
Mar 6:31 And he said to them, “Come with me; you need a little rest for yourselves in a quiet place.” (So many people were coming and going that they didn’t even have a chance to eat.)
Mar 6:32 So they went off alone in the boat to a remote place.
Mar 6:33 But many people found out where they were going, so they went on foot as fast as they could from all the cities and got there ahead of them.
Mar 6:34 Upon leaving the boat Jesus saw the large crowd, and he was moved with compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things.
Mar 6:35 But it was already late in the day, and his disciples came to him and said, “We’re out in the middle of nowhere and it’s getting late.
Mar 6:36 Dismiss them so they can go into the farms and villages to buy themselves something to eat.”
Mar 6:37 “You give them something to eat!” he answers. “How are we supposed to do that?!” they reply. “It would take 200 days’ wages to buy enough bread for them to eat!”
Mar 6:38 Then he asks them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and check.” So they checked and reported, “We have five loaves and two fish.”
Mar 6:39 So he had them all sit down in equally-sized groups on the green grass,
Mar 6:40 and they reclined according to a grid of plots in groups of hundreds and fifties.
Mar 6:41 Taking the five loaves and two fish, Jesus looked up into the sky, blessed the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to hand out; the same with the fish. It was divided among them all,
Mar 6:42 and they all ate and were satisfied.
Mar 6:43 Afterwards they picked up twelve baskets full of scraps of bread and fish;
Mar 6:44 there were five thousand men there.
Mar 6:45 Right away he compelled his disciples to get on the boat and go to the other side near Bethsaida, while he stayed and dismissed the crowd.
Mar 6:46 After bidding them farewell, he went into the mountain to pray.
Mar 6:47 By evening the boat had reached the middle of the sea, and he was alone on land.
Mar 6:48 He sees that they are straining at the oars because the wind was against them, so at about three in the morning he starts coming toward them, walking on the sea! He intended to walk right past them,
Mar 6:49 but they screamed because they thought they were seeing a ghost;
Mar 6:50 they all saw him and were quite disturbed. But right away he starts talking to them: “Have courage, it is I! Don’t be afraid.”
Mar 6:51 Then he went toward them and got into the boat, and the wind died down. They were completely and totally beside themselves,
Mar 6:52 because they were still clueless about the bread; they weren’t terribly bright.
Mar 6:53 When they finally reached land, they anchored at Gennesaret.
Mar 6:54 As they disembarked they were recognized right away,
Mar 6:55 and the people of the area started running from all over, carrying the sick on cots to where they heard he was.
Mar 6:56 And wherever he went, whether villages or cities or out in the fields, they would place the disabled in the city squares and plead with him to let them touch the hem of his cloak. And whoever did so was restored.

Mar 6:1 και εξηλθεν εκειθεν και ερχεται εις την πατριδα αυτου και ακολουθουσιν αυτω οἱ μαθηται αυτου
Mar 6:2 και γενομενου σαββατου ηρξατο διδασκειν εν τη συναγωγη και πολλοι ακουοντες εξεπλησσοντο λεγοντες ποθεν τουτω ταυτα και τις ἡ σοφια ἡ δοθεισα τουτω και αἱ δυναμεις τοιαυται δια των χειρων αυτου γινομεναι
Mar 6:3 ουχ οὑτος εστιν ὁ τεκτων ὁ υἱος της μαριας και αδελφος ιακωβου και ιωσητος και ιουδα και σιμωνος και ουκ εισιν αἱ αδελφαι αυτου ὡδε προς ἡμας και εσκανδαλιζοντο εν αυτω
Mar 6:4 και ελεγεν αυτοις ὁ ιησους ὁτι ουκ εστιν προφητης ατιμος ει. μη εν τη πατριδι αυτου και εν τοις συγγενευσιν αυτου και εν τη οικια αυτου
Mar 6:5 και ουκ εδυνατο εκει ποιησαι ουδεμιαν δυναμιν ει. μη ολιγοις αρρωστοις επιθεις τας χειρας εθεραπευσεν
Mar 6:6 και εθαυμαζεν δια την απιστιαν αυτων και περιηγεν τας κωμας κυκλω διδασκων
Mar 6:7 και προσκαλειται τους δωδεκα και ηρξατο αυτους αποστελλειν δυο δυο και εδιδου αυτοις εξουσιαν των πνευματων των ακαθαρτων
Mar 6:8 και παρηγγειλεν αυτοις ἱνα μηδεν αιρωσιν εις ὁδον ει. μη ῥαβδον μονον μη αρτον μη πηραν μη εις την ζωνην χαλκον
Mar 6:9 αλλα ὑποδεδεμενους σανδαλια και μη ενδυσησθε δυο χιτωνας
Mar 6:10 και ελεγεν αυτοις ὁπου εαν εισελθητε εις οικιαν εκει μενετε ἑως αν εξελθητε εκειθεν
Mar 6:11 και ὁς αν τοπος μη δεξηται ὑμας μηδε ακουσωσιν ὑμων εκπορευομενοι εκειθεν εκτιναξατε τον χουν τον ὑποκατω των ποδων ὑμων εις μαρτυριον αυτοις
Mar 6:12 και εξελθοντες εκηρυξαν ἱνα μετανοωσιν
Mar 6:13 και δαιμονια πολλα εξεβαλλον και ηλειφον ελαιω πολλους αρρωστους και εθεραπευον
Mar 6:14 και ηκουσεν ὁ βασιλευς ἡρωδης φανερον γαρ εγενετο το ονομα αυτου και ελεγον. ὁτι ιωαννης ὁ βαπτιζων εγηγερται εκ νεκρων και δια τουτο ενεργουσιν αἱ δυναμεις εν αυτω
Mar 6:15 αλλοι δε ελεγον. ὁτι ηλιας εστιν αλλοι δε ελεγον. ὁτι προφητης ὡς εἱς των προφητων
Mar 6:16 ακουσας δε ὁ ἡρωδης ελεγεν ὁν εγω απεκεφαλισα ιωαννην οὑτος ηγερθη
Mar 6:17 αυτος γαρ ὁ ἡρωδης αποστειλας εκρατησεν τον ιωαννην και εδησεν αυτον εν φυλακη δια ἡρωδιαδα την γυναικα φιλιππου του αδελφου αυτου ὁτι αυτην εγαμησεν
Mar 6:18 ελεγεν γαρ ὁ ιωαννης τω ἡρωδη ὁτι ουκ εξεστιν σοι εχειν την γυναικα του αδελφου σου
Mar 6:19 ἡ δε ἡρωδιας ενειχεν αυτω και ηθελεν αυτον αποκτειναι και ουκ ηδυνατο
Mar 6:20 ὁ γαρ ἡρωδης εφοβειτο τον ιωαννην ειδως αυτον ανδρα δικαιον και ἁγιον και συνετηρει αυτον και ακουσας αυτου πολλα ηπορει και ἡδεως αυτου ηκουεν
Mar 6:21 και γενομενης ἡμερας ευκαιρου ὁτε ἡρωδης τοις γενεσιοις αυτου δειπνον εποιησεν τοις μεγιστασιν αυτου και τοις χιλιαρχοις και τοις πρωτοις της γαλιλαιας
Mar 6:22 και εισελθουσης της θυγατρος αυτου ἡρωδιαδος και ορχησαμενης ηρεσεν τω ἡρωδη και τοις συνανακειμενοις ειπεν ὁ βασιλευς τω κορασιω αιτησον με ὁ εαν θελης και δωσω σοι
Mar 6:23 και ωμοσεν αυτη πολλα ὁ. τι εαν με αιτησης δωσω σοι ἑως ἡμισους της βασιλειας μου
Mar 6:24 και εξελθουσα ειπεν τη μητρι αυτης τι αιτησωμαι ἡ δε ειπεν την κεφαλην ιωαννου του βαπτιζοντος
Mar 6:25 και εισελθουσα ευθυς μετα σπουδης προς τον βασιλεα ητησατο λεγουσα θελω ἱνα εξαυτης δως μοι επι πινακι την κεφαλην ιωαννου του βαπτιστου
Mar 6:26 και περιλυπος γενομενος ὁ βασιλευς δια τους ὁρκους και τους ανακειμενους ουκ ηθελησεν αθετησαι αυτην
Mar 6:27 και ευθυς αποστειλας ὁ βασιλευς σπεκουλατορα επεταξεν ενεγκαι την κεφαλην αυτου και απελθων απεκεφαλισεν αυτον εν τη φυλακη
Mar 6:28 και ηνεγκεν την κεφαλην αυτου επι πινακι και εδωκεν αυτην τω κορασιω και το κορασιον εδωκεν αυτην τη μητρι αυτης
Mar 6:29 και ακουσαντες οἱ μαθηται αυτου ηλθον και ηραν το πτωμα αυτου και εθηκαν αυτο εν μνημειω
Mar 6:30 και συναγονται οἱ αποστολοι προς τον ιησουν και απηγγειλαν αυτω παντα ὁσα εποιησαν και ὁσα εδιδαξαν
Mar 6:31 και λεγει αυτοις δευτε ὑμεις αυτοι κατ᾽ ιδιαν εις ερημον τοπον και αναπαυσασθε ολιγον ησαν γαρ οἱ ερχομενοι και οἱ ὑπαγοντες πολλοι και ουδε φαγειν ευκαιρουν
Mar 6:32 και απηλθον εν τω πλοιω εις ερημον τοπον κατ᾽ ιδιαν
Mar 6:33 και ειδον αυτους ὑπαγοντας και επεγνωσαν πολλοι και πεζη απο πασων των πολεων συνεδραμον εκει και προηλθον αυτους
Mar 6:34 και εξελθων ειδεν πολυν οχλον και εσπλαγχνισθη επ᾽ αυτους ὁτι ησαν ὡς προβατα μη εχοντα ποιμενα και ηρξατο διδασκειν αυτους πολλα
Mar 6:35 και ηδη ὡρας πολλης γενομενης προσελθοντες αυτω οἱ μαθηται αυτου ελεγον. ὁτι ερημος εστιν ὁ τοπος και ηδη ὡρα πολλη
Mar 6:36 απολυσον αυτους ἱνα απελθοντες εις τους κυκλω αγρους και κωμας αγορασωσιν ἑαυτοις τι φαγωσιν
Mar 6:37 ὁ δε αποκριθεις ειπεν αυτοις δοτε αυτοις ὑμεις φαγειν και λεγουσιν αυτω απελθοντες αγορασωμεν δηναριων διακοσιων αρτους και δωσομεν αυτοις φαγειν
Mar 6:38 ὁ δε λεγει αυτοις ποσους αρτους εχετε ὑπαγετε ιδετε και γνοντες λεγουσιν πεντε και δυο ιχθυας
Mar 6:39 και επεταξεν αυτοις ανακλιναι παντας συμποσια συμποσια επι τω χλωρω χορτω
Mar 6:40 και ανεπεσαν πρασιαι πρασιαι κατα ἑκατον και κατα πεντηκοντα
Mar 6:41 και λαβων τους πεντε αρτους και τους δυο ιχθυας αναβλεψας εις τον ουρανον ευλογησεν και κατεκλασεν τους αρτους και εδιδου τοις μαθηταις αυτου ἱνα παρατιθωσιν αυτοις και τους δυο ιχθυας εμερισεν πασιν
Mar 6:42 και εφαγον παντες και εχορτασθησαν
Mar 6:43 και ηραν κλασματα δωδεκα κοφινων πληρωματα και απο των ιχθυων
Mar 6:44 και ησαν οἱ φαγοντες τους αρτους πεντακισχιλιοι ανδρες
Mar 6:45 και ευθυς ηναγκασεν τους μαθητας αυτου εμβηναι εις το πλοιον και προαγειν εις το περαν προς βηθσαϊδαν ἑως αυτος απολυει τον οχλον
Mar 6:46 και αποταξαμενος αυτοις απηλθεν εις το ορος προσευξασθαι
Mar 6:47 και οψιας γενομενης ην το πλοιον εν μεσω της θαλασσης και αυτος μονος επι της γης
Mar 6:48 και ιδων αυτους βασανιζομενους εν τω ελαυνειν ην γαρ ὁ ανεμος εναντιος αυτοις περι τεταρτην φυλακην της νυκτος ερχεται προς αυτους περιπατων επι της θαλασσης και ηθελεν παρελθειν αυτους
Mar 6:49 οἱ δε ιδοντες αυτον επι της θαλασσης περιπατουντα εδοξαν ὁτι φαντασμα εστιν και ανεκραξαν
Mar 6:50 παντες γαρ αυτον ειδον και εταραχθησαν ὁ δε ευθυς ελαλησεν μετ᾽ αυτων και λεγει αυτοις θαρσειτε εγω ειμι μη φοβεισθε
Mar 6:51 και ανεβη προς αυτους εις το πλοιον και εκοπασεν ὁ ανεμος και λιαν εκ περισσου εν ἑαυτοις εξισταντο
Mar 6:52 ου γαρ συνηκαν επι τοις αρτοις αλλ᾽ ην αυτων ἡ καρδια πεπωρωμενη
Mar 6:53 και διαπερασαντες επι την γην ηλθον εις γεννησαρετ και προσωρμισθησαν
Mar 6:54 και εξελθοντων αυτων εκ του πλοιου ευθυς επιγνοντες αυτον
Mar 6:55 περιεδραμον ὁλην την χωραν εκεινην και ηρξαντο επι τοις κραβαττοις τους κακως εχοντας περιφερειν ὁπου ηκουον ὁτι εστιν
Mar 6:56 και ὁπου αν εισεπορευετο εις κωμας η εις πολεις η εις αγρους εν ταις αγοραις ετιθεσαν τους ασθενουντας και παρεκαλουν αυτον ἱνα καν του κρασπεδου του ἱματιου αυτου ἁψωνται και ὁσοι αν ἡψαντο αυτου εσωζοντο
