Mar 4:1 Once again Jesus began to teach by the sea. A large crowd gathered to him, so he got into a boat and sat down, while the whole crowd was on land facing the sea.
Mar 4:2 He taught them with many parables; for example:
Mar 4:3 “Listen! Out came a farmer to sow seeds.
Mar 4:4 And as he did so, some of them fell along the side of the path, where the birds came and ate them.
Mar 4:5 “Others fell onto rocky ground where there wasn’t much soil. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow.
Mar 4:6 But when the sun came up, it scorched them because they had no root.
Mar 4:7 Still others fell among thorns, which grew up and chocked the plants so that they could not produce.
Mar 4:8 “Yet others fell into ideal soil where they grew and prospered. By the time they all finished growing and producing, one seed had multiplied by thirty, another by sixty, and yet another by a hundred.”
Mar 4:9 And he added, “Whoever has ears, listen!”
Mar 4:10 Now when he was alone with the disciples, the Twelve asked him about the parables.
Mar 4:11 And he said to them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to outsiders, everything is said in parables,
Mar 4:12 such that ’though watching, they do not see, and though listening, they do not hear and understand. If they did, they might someday turn around and be forgiven’.”
Mar 4:13 Then he continued: “Don’t you perceive this parable? Then how will you grasp the rest of them?
Mar 4:14 The farmer is sowing the Word.
Mar 4:15 The seeds along the side of the path represent those who hear the Word but the Adversary comes and takes it away.
Mar 4:16 “The seeds on the rocky soil represent those who hear the Word and gladly accept it right away.
Mar 4:17 But there is no root in them; they are shallow. So when oppression or trials come because of the Word, they are easily tripped up.
Mar 4:18 And the seeds among the thorns represent those who hear the Word,
Mar 4:19 but it becomes choked by the anxieties of life, the allure of wealth, and other desires, so the Word is unproductive.
Mar 4:20 But the seeds on ideal soil represent those who hear the Word and gladly accept it. They product thirty, sixty, or a hundred times what was sown.”
Mar 4:21 Then he said to them, “Nobody puts a lamp under a container or bed; don’t they put it on a lampstand instead?
Mar 4:22 For there is nothing hidden that won’t be revealed, and nothing cloaked that won’t be made obvious.
Mar 4:23 If you have ears, listen!”
Mar 4:24 And he added, “Listen carefully! Whatever measure you use will be used on you— with a bonus!
Mar 4:25 For those who have much will be given more, but those who have little will be deprived of even that.
Mar 4:26 “The kingdom of God is like this,” he continued. “A farmer plants seeds
Mar 4:27 and goes to bed, then wakes up the next day and the seed has sprouted and grown. The farmer has no idea how this happens;
Mar 4:28 the earth just automatically produces the stalk, then the ear, and then the full head of grain.
Mar 4:29 And when it ripens it is time to get out the sickle, because the harvest is ready.”
Mar 4:30 And he went on: “To what can we compare the kingdom of God? What parable can we use?
Mar 4:31 It is like a mustard seed, one of the tiniest that gets planted in the ground.
Mar 4:32 After planting, it grows up to become the biggest vegetable, with branches large enough to provide shade for the birds to nest.”
Mar 4:33 And with many such parables he spoke the Word to them, according to what they could grasp.
Mar 4:34 In fact, he never spoke without using parables, though he explained them all to his disciples privately.
Mar 4:35 Later that day as evening approached, he said to them, “Let’s go across to the other side.”
Mar 4:36 So they left the crowd and took him, since he was already in the boat. Other boats went along as well.
Mar 4:37 But a storm came up with strong winds, and the waves beat on the boat to the point that it was filled with water.
Mar 4:38 Now Jesus was sleeping on a cushion at the stern, so they woke him up and were saying, “Teacher! Don’t you care that we are about to die?”
Mar 4:39 And when he was fully awake he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Shut up!” Then the wind died down and there was great calm.
Mar 4:40 “What cowards you are!” he said to them. “You have no faith!”
Mar 4:41 Great fear came over them and they said to each other, “Who can this be, since the wind and the sea listen to him?!”

Mar 4:1 και παλιν ηρξατο διδασκειν παρα την θαλασσαν και συναγεται προς αυτον οχλος πλειστος ὡστε αυτον εις πλοιον εμβαντα καθησθαι εν τη θαλασση και πας ὁ οχλος προς την θαλασσαν επι της γης ησαν
Mar 4:2 και εδιδασκεν αυτους εν παραβολαις πολλα και ελεγεν αυτοις εν τη διδαχη αυτου
Mar 4:3 ακουετε. ιδου εξηλθεν ὁ σπειρων σπειραι
Mar 4:4 και εγενετο εν τω σπειρειν ὁ μεν επεσεν παρα την ὁδον και ηλθεν τα πετεινα και κατεφαγεν αυτο
Mar 4:5 και αλλο επεσεν επι το πετρωδες ὁπου ουκ ειχεν γην πολλην και ευθυς εξανετειλεν δια το μη εχειν βαθος γης
Mar 4:6 και ὁτε ανετειλεν ὁ ἡλιος εκαυματισθη και δια το μη εχειν ῥιζαν εξηρανθη
Mar 4:7 και αλλο επεσεν εις τας ακανθας και ανεβησαν αἱ ακανθαι και συνεπνιξαν αυτο και καρπον ουκ εδωκεν
Mar 4:8 και αλλα επεσεν εις την γην την καλην και εδιδου καρπον αναβαινοντα και αυξανομενα και εφερεν ἑν τριακοντα και ἑν ἑξηκοντα και ἑν ἑκατον
Mar 4:9 και ελεγεν ὁς εχει ωτα ακουειν ακουετω
Mar 4:10 και ὁτε εγενετο κατα μονας ηρωτων αυτον οἱ περι αυτον συν τοις δωδεκα τας παραβολας
Mar 4:11 και ελεγεν αυτοις ὑμιν το μυστηριον δεδοται της βασιλειας του θεου εκεινοις δε τοις εξω εν παραβολαις τα παντα γινεται
Mar 4:12 ἱνα βλεποντες βλεπωσιν και μη ιδωσιν και ακουοντες ακουωσιν και μη συνιωσιν μηποτε επιστρεψωσιν και αφεθη αυτοις
Mar 4:13 και λεγει αυτοις ουκ οιδατε την παραβολην ταυτην και πως πασας τας παραβολας γνωσεσθε
Mar 4:14 ὁ σπειρων τον λογον σπειρει
Mar 4:15 οὑτοι δε εισιν οἱ παρα την ὁδον ὁπου σπειρεται ὁ λογος και ὁταν ακουσωσιν ευθυς ερχεται ὁ σατανας και αιρει τον λογον τον εσπαρμενον εις αυτους
Mar 4:16 και οὑτοι εισιν οἱ επι τα πετρωδη σπειρομενοι οἱ ὁταν ακουσωσιν τον λογον ευθυς μετα χαρας λαμβανουσιν αυτον
Mar 4:17 και ουκ εχουσιν ῥιζαν εν ἑαυτοις αλλα προσκαιροι εισιν ειτα γενομενης θλιψεως η διωγμου δια τον λογον ευθυς σκανδαλιζονται
Mar 4:18 και αλλοι εισιν οἱ εις τας ακανθας σπειρομενοι οὑτοι εισιν οἱ τον λογον ακουσαντες
Mar 4:19 και αἱ μεριμναι του αιωνος και ἡ απατη του πλουτου και αἱ περι τα λοιπα επιθυμιαι εισπορευομεναι συμπνιγουσιν τον λογον και ακαρπος γινεται
Mar 4:20 και εκεινοι εισιν οἱ επι την γην την καλην σπαρεντες οἱτινες ακουουσιν τον λογον και παραδεχονται και καρποφορουσιν ἑν τριακοντα και ἑν ἑξηκοντα και ἑν ἑκατον
Mar 4:21 και ελεγεν αυτοις μητι ερχεται ὁ λυχνος ἱνα ὑπο τον μοδιον τεθη η ὑπο την κλινην ουχ ἱνα επι την λυχνιαν τεθη
Mar 4:22 ου γαρ εστιν κρυπτον εαν μη ἱνα φανερωθη ουδε εγενετο αποκρυφον αλλ᾽ ἱνα ελθη εις φανερον
Mar 4:23 ει. τις εχει ωτα ακουειν ακουετω
Mar 4:24 και ελεγεν αυτοις βλεπετε τι ακουετε εν ὡ μετρω μετρειτε μετρηθησεται ὑμιν και προστεθησεται ὑμιν
Mar 4:25 ὁς γαρ εχει δοθησεται αυτω και ὁς ουκ εχει και ὁ εχει αρθησεται απ᾽ αυτου
Mar 4:26 και ελεγεν οὑτως εστιν ἡ βασιλεια του θεου ὡς ανθρωπος βαλη τον σπορον επι της γης
Mar 4:27 και καθευδη και εγειρηται νυκτα και ἡμεραν και ὁ σπορος βλαστα και μηκυνηται ὡς ουκ οιδεν αυτος
Mar 4:28 αυτοματη ἡ γη καρποφορει πρωτον χορτον ειτα σταχυν. ειτα πληρης σιτον εν τω σταχυϊ
Mar 4:29 ὁταν δε παραδοι ὁ καρπος ευθυς αποστελλει το δρεπανον ὁτι παρεστηκεν ὁ θερισμος
Mar 4:30 και ελεγεν πως ὁμοιωσωμεν την βασιλειαν του θεου η εν τινι αυτην παραβολη θωμεν
Mar 4:31 ὡς κοκκω σιναπεως ὁς ὁταν σπαρη επι της γης μικροτερον ον παντων των σπερματων των επι της γης
Mar 4:32 και ὁταν σπαρη αναβαινει και γινεται μειζον παντων των λαχανων και ποιει κλαδους μεγαλους ὡστε δυνασθαι ὑπο την σκιαν αυτου τα πετεινα του ουρανου κατασκηνουν
Mar 4:33 και τοιαυταις παραβολαις πολλαις ελαλει αυτοις τον λογον καθως ηδυναντο ακουειν
Mar 4:34 χωρις δε παραβολης ουκ ελαλει αυτοις κατ᾽ ιδιαν δε τοις ιδιοις μαθηταις επελυεν παντα
Mar 4:35 και λεγει αυτοις εν εκεινη τη ἡμερα οψιας γενομενης διελθωμεν εις το περαν
Mar 4:36 και αφεντες τον οχλον παραλαμβανουσιν αυτον ὡς ην εν τω πλοιω και αλλα πλοια ην μετ᾽ αυτου
Mar 4:37 και γινεται λαιλαψ μεγαλη ανεμου και τα κυματα επεβαλλεν εις το πλοιον ὡστε ηδη γεμιζεσθαι το πλοιον
Mar 4:38 και αυτος ην εν τη πρυμνη επι το προσκεφαλαιον καθευδων και εγειρουσιν αυτον και λεγουσιν αυτω διδασκαλε ου μελει σοι ὁτι απολλυμεθα
Mar 4:39 και διεγερθεις επετιμησεν τω ανεμω και ειπεν τη θαλασση σιωπα πεφιμωσο και εκοπασεν ὁ ανεμος και εγενετο γαληνη μεγαλη
Mar 4:40 και ειπεν αυτοις τι δειλοι εστε ουπω εχετε πιστιν
Mar 4:41 και εφοβηθησαν φοβον μεγαν και ελεγον. προς αλληλους τις αρα οὑτος εστιν ὁτι και ὁ ανεμος και ἡ θαλασσα ὑπακουει αυτω
